While out feeding the horses early in the morning I noticed a group of ravens huddled together in the pasture. They were chattering animatedely, heads bobbing up and down. But what, you may ask yourself, does this have to do with genealogy?
Well, the ravens put a smile on my face as they reminded me of a group of men in black robes, debating. Jurists perhaps, or church men. And then I remembered the picture above.
Second on the left is my great-grandfather, Primo Castro Pita, who was a professor of natural history in Lugo, Spain. The photo was taken in 1886. It was kindly provided to me by my second cousin, Cesar Manuel Castro Bolaño, whose existence I only found out about because one day we found ourselves on the same genealogy forum, researching the same family line. It was a happy encounter for both of us as each side of the family had ended up with documents and pictures the other hadn't and we were able to swap.
